Why I chose to teach... and still do!

April 20, 2017

My love of dance started at the age of 3 when my mum sent me to ballet and as I grew up, the more I loved to dance. It was when I was 18 and trying to decide what route my life should go that I realised I wanted to keep on dancing!  The career I was going to do was Nursing but I knew I would never be able to fit dancing in with the shift patterns and I wasn't ready to give it up. Luckily, I found an amazing course at the Royal Academy of Dance where I gained so much knowledge that goes beyond just dancing. This included understanding anatomy and physiology, child pedagogy , choreography, dance history and learning to read Benesh Notation, plus I got to dance everyday!

It is hard to believe it has been 12 years since I graduated from that course and after 12 years of teaching I have learnt so much and added to the knowledge which I use when I am teaching . When I started my School I wanted the enjoyment and the love of dance to be passed on to the children. I love seeing the children learn new things and progress when they have been working so hard on a new step or routine. Its true what they say, teaching is like having a child (in my case 4 children). I am immensely proud of all the students and their dedication and commitment to their classes. Not everyone will go on to be professional dancers but it's not always about that, it's teaching children happiness, discipline, fun and to have friends that love what you do too!

As the School grows I try my best to make sure I see all the children as I can't be at all classes and that’s why I love doing the shows! The excitement on children's faces and I get to see all of the pupils in one place which is great!

That is why I chose to teach ballet, and continue to do so.
